 Name change to United Community Options Comes as Major Capital Campaign Begins

Ft. Lauderdale FL – Since it was founded in 1947 United Cerebral Palsy of South Florida has become one of the largest, most recognized charitable organizations in south Florida. Leaders of the organization that serves more than 1600 infants, children and adults at over 60 locations in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach believe more people can be helped. That is why the organization will now be known as United Community Options of South Florida. http://www.unitedcommunityoptionssfl.org/

“With careful consideration of our 70 year history & future, we felt our new name needs to reflect who we support & the wide array of programs we offer children & adults with disabilities as well as typically developing children & adolescents & their families in South Florida” says Pat Murphy UCO’s Executive Director & Chief Program Officer.

UCO has also begun a major capital campaign to make significant improvements to the organizations Ft. Lauderdale Campus including improvement of technology in classrooms, expansion of facilities in an anticipation of serving more community members and their families, adding a parent advocacy office which will include job training/coaching, parental advocating education and a community closet which will make available food, clothing and more for those in need. The capital campaign will also fund the reconstruction of the building’s primary parking lot with frequently floods during an average south Florida rain storm. The flooding makes it more difficult for individuals served by the organization that cannot get into their respective programs because of the water

Who Does United Community Options Serve?

United Community Options serves children and adults with a wide range of needs and abilities including physical, intellectual, and neurological disabilities, as well as developmental delays and developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, Prader-Will syndrome, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and those who are technology dependent or medically fragile. In addition, we serve typically developing children and adolescents in many of our programs.
